Frequently Asked Questions
I'm planning a weekend trip into the Wild. How much food do I need? --Each manufacturer shows suggested meal sizes on their pouches. Both Mountain House and Backpacker's Pantry individual pouches offer "2 person servings" for their entrees. We have found that if you are sharing the meal among 2 "light eaters" you will have no problem splitting the meals, especially if you will have other "side dishes" along with the entree. However, if you are a "big eater" you will find that you will probably eat an entire "2 person serving" pouch. The Breakfast meals are generally made with only 1 person in mind and provide a good breakfast for 1 individual. The Desserts are designed for 2-4 people and generally serve enough tasty treat for what they advertise on the pouch. Can you explain the Ready-to-Eat Meals? --The meals offered by GearWild.com are Freeze Dried. This means they are pre-cooked and then Super Dried to remove all the moisture. Why? Because it makes the meals super light and they remain fresh for years! Does it lose taste? By no means! You will be amazed how great each meal tastes and smells. If we wouldn't eat them, we wouldn't sell them! How Do You Prepare the Meals? --Its super easy. And super mess-free! You simply boil about 2 cups of water. You open the pouch, pour in the water, wait 10 minutes and you've got a delicious meal ready to eat! What Do You Recommend to Cook the Meals? --Check out our list of stoves! All the stoves we offer are super compact and super light! Why does that matter? Because you don't want to be carrying any unnecessary weight and space in your pack! Despite the super small size, you can easily prepare a delicious meal on the mountain or anywhere! You can use them with pots or skillets to prepare whatever you need. And they boil water in about 2 minutes!
